South Africa – Indonesia Trade

An Indonesian Ministerial delegation and Trade Mission to South Africa was greeted by the signing of a $1.6 trillion Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA) between 26 African countries with a combined population of 625million.

It is remarkable timing for the Indonesian business delegation who are seeking out new business opportunities. Indonesians have been growing their economy by an average of 5% for the past few years. This has led the development and investment in modern infrastructure and connectivity throughout Indonesia.

The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, H E Mr Enggartiasto Lukita, leading the delegation met with Minister Rob Davies of Trade and Industry for South Africa for the 3rd Joint Trade Committee Ministerial Meeting.

The business forum that followed provided an opportunity for one on one and face to face engagement and interaction, further opening the doors for trade.

The recent Indian Ocean Rim Association Summit (IORA) that took place in Jakarta strengthened the links between the two countries. A South African business delegation will attend Indonesia’s Trade Expo in October this year.
