72nd Indonesian Independence

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia held a flag raising ceremony in commemoration of the 72nd Indonesian Independence Commemoration in Pretoria on Thursday, 17 August 2017.

The event is organized by the Embassy and attended by Indonesian citizens in Pretoria and Johannesburg areas as well as South African citizens who belong to the Friends of Indonesia group.

The group consists of South Africans who once spent time living in Indonesia and still maintain a close bond with the Country and its people.

 


The gathering is a yearly event that commemorates Indonesia’s independence declaration on 17 August 1945. It provides an avenue for all Indonesians living in South Africa as well as South Africans who has close ties to Indonesia a chance to get together and enjoy Indonesia’s art performance as well as delicious traditional cuisines. Other than the Friends of Indonesia, South Africans who are alumnis of Indonesia’s various scholarship programmes came together and re-live the Indonesia that is so close to their hearts.
