Kenya-South Africa Visa Review

06 November 2018

On behalf of the KEDASA (Kenyan Diaspora in South Africa) Executive Committee, its members and the entire Kenyan Diaspora in South Africa, we welcome the move to scrap short-term visa requirements for Kenyans and the easing of visa application rules and entry conditions for business community and academia traveling to South Africa.

We applaud the Government of Kenya and South Africa for this milestone achievement and take this opportunity to congratulate HE. Ambassador Jean Kamau and her team for working hand in hand with the Department of Home Affairs to make this landmark achievement.

In this new era of integrations, this move will improve trade, skill and technology transfer between the two nations for mutual benefit.

Following the historic signing of the African Continental Free Trade agreement in Kigali, in March this year, Africa has become the world’s largest trade area.

Under the theme of ‘creating one African market’ the initiative falls under the Agenda 2063 to bring together 1.2 billion people with a combined GDP of 2 Trillion dollars.

With this in mind, we see this as a move in the right direction for both countries.

KEDASA would like to see the Kenyan Government engaging with the South African Government to open up Kenyan goods to the South African market like Tea, Coffee, Farmers Choice sausages and Tusker just to name a few.

KEDASA is keen in working with both governments to ensure participation of the Diaspora community in the development agenda of both countries.
