15 April 2021
Thabiso Magodielo, a long standing associate of the Diplomatic Society, has been appointed as Travel Diplomacy Specialist. His vast experience in the travel and tourism sectors makes him the ideal point person to drive recovery in these sectors post pandemic.
Magodielo has a Bachelors qualification in Law, a certificate in public relations, and has a passion for travel and tourism having initiated several business and entities in relation to this sector. He has organized several events and hosted celebrities and high profile dignitaries like Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Miss World Pageant and also hosted the South African Cabinet Lekgotla with the president and all government officials.
Magodielo created and managed The King’s Cup Golf Tournament for King Mswati, Managed King Zwelithini’s Golf Day as well as The International Women’s Forum Golf Day header by Madam Zanele Mbeki. He is currently working on golf tournaments for former president Kenneth Kaunda, the Presidents of Mozambique, Botswana, Congo and Dubai. He is also an experienced stakeholder relations manager having worked as Government Stakeholder Relations Manager for Brand South Africa.
I am excited about this journey with the Diplomatic Society, said Magodielo. I will draw on my many years of experience in the travel industry especially around MICE (Meetings Incentives Conferencing Events). Magodielo currently serves on the board of Southern African Business Development, State Owned Entities Communicators’ Forum, Sanitas Health Care and The Wonders of Africa, an organisation made up of all 54 countries of Africa to promote continental tourism.
Since 1997 The Diplomatic Society platform has gathered a wealth of knowledge in diplomacy in all its facets and travel, tourism and hospitality form the functioning basis of a diplomatic mission. Whether for official, business, professional or leisure, hosting delegations or events, or attending conferences and meetings, or incentivising and organizing travel and tourism, is a focal point of the mission. "Travel is what comes to mind when one thinks about Diplomats and Diplomacy," said Kirtan Bhana, Director at the Diplomatic Society. "It’s not all secret rendezvous in exotic locations."
“Together with our combined network and resources we will plot a recovery of this sector of which the human resource factor is key. It is inextricably connected to arts, sport and recreation,” explained Magodielo. “With changing and new value and supply chains being created, we will have to be innovative in our approach and delivery.”
The inevitable joining of travel and diplomacy to mitigate and fast track the tourism and hospitality industry during this unprecedented pandemic, will generate creative solutions as health and wellness takes precedence.
