Pretoria, South Africa – The Embassy of Indonesia in South Africa recently hosted a Diplomatic Reception to mark the 78th Independence and National Armed Forces Day at Indonesia House in Pretoria, South Africa. The event, brimming with cultural splendor, showcased Indonesia's rich diversity, diplomatic achievements, and historic ties with South Africa, all in the spirit of the motto "Bhineka Tunggal Ika" - Unity in Diversity.

In his remarks, the newly accredited Ambassador Saud Krisnawan expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the resounding support received from the international community. He highlighted the significant milestone of Indonesia's election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2024 to 2026. With an impressive mandate, Indonesia, a nation known for its 17,000 islands and 300 diverse ethnicities, is committed to upholding human rights and promoting human development during its term on the council.

Ambassador Krisnawan delved into the historic ties that bind the Indonesian Archipelago to South Africa and the African Continent, dating back to the 1700s. These connections were rekindled at the Africa-Asia conference in 1995 in Bandung, a significant moment that celebrated the freedom of many African and Asian nations from the yoke of colonialism. At the conference, a commitment was made to remain Non-Aligned and to support nations still struggling with the inhumanity and brutality of imperialism, giving rise to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha for Agriculture and Rural Development in South Africa joined the celebration, conveying warm wishes on behalf of the people of South Africa to Indonesia. He reiterated Ambassador Krisnawan's remarks and emphasized the growing interactions, exchanges, and engagements between the two nations. Trade, travel, and tourism emerged as strong areas of cooperation, as a commitment to deepen bilateral relations.

The event offered a vibrant display of Indonesian culture and heritage. Several Indonesian-manufactured products were exhibited, showcasing the nation's industrial prowess. Guests had the opportunity to savor traditional Indonesian food and beverages, adding a delightful culinary touch to the evening. To add to the festivities, a cultural dance performance was presented, offering a glimpse into the richness and diversity of Indonesian culture.
